It was double the agony for a 28-year-old man when in the throes of suffering an asthma attack and fumbling for his asthma pump, he was accosted and assaulted by two suspects who drove off with his vehicle on Fairlawn Crescent, on Tuesday.

Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo, said, “The victim had been driving a white Nissan Sentra on Fairlawn Crescent when he suddenly developed chest pains and pulled his vehicle off the side of the road to search for his asthma pump.

As he was searching for the pump, he was approached by two men who advanced on either side of the vehicle.

“The man on the driver’s side, punched the victim in the face and hauled him out of the vehicle. The suspects drove off in the victim’s vehicle at high speed. Fortunately, the victim still had his cellphone and he was able to call his friend for assistance. The victim proceeded to the police station where he registered a case.

“Whilst the victim was at the police station, he was informed by a police officer that the vehicle was recovered in the KwaMakhutha area with one suspect arrested.

A case of carjacking is under investigation,” Cpt Naidoo added.
