A 36-year-old man was arrested for murder after parts the body of Celimpilo Nosbusiso Sibiya, 8, was discovered in a pit toilet today (15 November). According to police, the child was reported missing about a week ago in Elandslaagte.

The child’s cut-up remains were spread over a wide area in Driefontein. Search for the child continued with members of the SAPS K9 serach and rescue, Elandslaagte police and family. The suspect who was arrested after police followed up on leads, pointed out where the body of the child was dumped. The suspect will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

As the news of the discovery spread it left the Bataskraal community in shock. K9 Search and Rescue’s Warrant Offcier Jacques Meyer, the officer involved in the recovery of the child’s body parts, said that this was one of the worst scenes that he has ever attended.

Parts of the child was found in different areas within a 5km radius from the home of the suspect, who pointed out the spots to the police. Meyer recovered the child’s head and torso from two pit toilets.

While police combed the suspect’s house for DNA evidence, it remained unclear where was the child’s body quartered. An eerie silence descended on the area as police went about doing their work.
