Desmin Moonsamy from Woodview, Phoenix was crowned Mr India South Africa 2018 in a glittering ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel, in Durban recently.
This competition had seen ten young men from different walks of life that share the same sentiments of being good role models, global ambassadors and successful young entrepreneurs that want to positively impact the communities in which they live, compete for the coveted title. The event provided a platform to showcase a combination of fine art, fashion and Indian South African culture.
This national event also awarded many young entrepreneurs in the business spectrum, a category in which Moonsamy had excelled in, receiving the ‘Business Man’ award. He described his big night as a combination of nervousness and exhilaration, “Every time I walked on stage I was overwhelmed with feelings of anxiousness and excitement. I walked on stage in representation of all the things I believe in,” said Moonsamy.
Moonsamy shared sentiments about his experience during the journey to becoming Mr India South Africa 2018. “This journey has been one of the greatest experiences in my life, I was able to create a lifelong bond with other contestants in the competition. I have learned so much from them. Witnessing the growth from just being contestants in a competition to creating a gentleman’s club and ultimately a brotherhood bond has been one of my favorite outcomes of the competition. We are at a point where we plan on keeping and maintaining this bond for a very long time to come. I believe we are all winners at the end of the day, but I still had to bring the title home,” he said.
“My reigning year will be an opportunity to discover my strengths and perfect them, realise my weaknesses and transform them into strengths. I aim to create more awareness of the Mr India SA brand through my own marketing platforms as well as speaking at events on contemporary topics that affect males today and work on how we can become more solution driven to create platforms of support for various challenges. I want to create a culture sharing network with other young gentlemen where we can exchange knowledge and educate each other as well as the public on our lifestyles and opportunities for collaboration as well as use this title as an opportunity to connect with other similar title holders where we can start a global forum to look at ways to inspire and guide youth of all countries via a central median,” he said.
He thanked world renowned fashion show producer, artist and philanthropist, Danny Moodliyar for his mentorship and guidance throughout the journey. “Mr Danny Moodliyar’s attention to detail in ensuring that we had been prepared on all grounds made this experience much more spectacular. I am truly honored to have been under his wing of leadership and support. We had the opportunity of being mentored, acquire values and skills as well as gain insight into the larger picture of being global ambassadors. On behalf of all the contestants, I would like to express our gratitude and appreciation towards Mr Danny Moodliyar for all that he has invested in creating strong leaders,” Moonsamy said.
