A trio of individuals made a tragic discovery on Thursday when they were confronted with the body of a man hanged from a tree along a pathway in Phoenix.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) members responded to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public reporting the incident to the RUSA Operations Centre. “The body of an unidentified man was discovered hanging by a bed sheet from a tree in Phoenix. At approximately 6:38am, the Reaction Unit South Africa Operations Centre received a call from a member of public reporting the incident after he and two other individuals made the discovery whilst walking through a pathway.

“Upon arrival, Reaction Officers found a plastic stool lying next to the deceased. The motive for the suicide has not been established. Police are investigating further,” said RUSA head, Prem Balram. “Suicide is prevalent in the area and RUSA members are often faced with gruesome suicide scenes. Victims of depression and those going through tough situations are urged to seek counselling or help from trusted friends, family or religious leaders as well as recognised organisations.

“However, in the incident in question, police investigations will reveal the motive behind the death,” said Balram.
