Four suspects brandishing firearms held up staff and patrons at a tavern on Hannaford Drive before fleeing with cash, cellphones, liquor and cigarettes, last week.
According to Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo, the manager alleged that he was behind the counter with about
20 patrons in the tavern when the gunmen entered. “The complainant alleged that one suspect with a firearm approached him and pulled him by his T-shirt. The suspect made the manager lie on the floor together with the patrons and employees. The victims were searched and R4, 000 was taken from the manager’s pocket as well as his cellphone.
Two suspects went behind the counter and removed R8 000 from the till including a bag containing bout R14 000 cash. The suspects helped themselves to liquor valued at about R960 and cigarettes to the value of R1 000,” said Cpt Naidoo.
She said the patrons and employees were also robbed of cash and their cellphones. A business robbery case is under investigation at Phoenix SAPS.
