Police in Phoenix have launched a search for an attempted murder suspect, who is alleged to have shot his ex-wife and her friend whilst they were seated in a vehicle on Foresthaven Drive during the early hours of Sunday, 30 September 2018 (Phoenix Tabloid, 2 October 2018).

Communications officer at Phoenix SAPS, Cpt L Naidoo, said, “Detective Warrant Officer M Perumal is looking for the suspect who committed the shooting. It is alleged that on the above date and time, the victim, Gailen Pillay, and her friend Bilal Haider, were seated in his motor vehicle on the roadside on Foresthaven Drive, Phoenix, when the
ex-husband of Gailen Pillay arrived and fired gun shots at them.
Gailen Pillay was shot in the chest whilst her friend Bilal Haider was shot in the abdomen. Both victims were rushed to hospital following the incident.

“A witness was interviewed at the scene and he alleged that he was at his place of residence when he heard three gun shots being fired. He then went onto the road to see what was happening and that is when he noticed a blue Picanto speeding away from the scene and noticed the two victims who had been shot were bleeding. He then contacted the police and ambulance department.”

“On interviewing the victims, it was established that the ex-husband of Gailen Pillay had shot both of them. The suspect, Ashraf Gany, has since been on the run from the police,” added Cpt Naidoo.
An appeal is being made to anyone who may know the whereabouts of the suspect to please contact Detective Warrant Officer M Perumal on 079 420 3671 or 031 508 2327.
