It was death on the roadway yet again after a 22-year-old man was killed whilst attempting to cross the south bound lane of the R102 at the Trade Center off-ramp in Phoenix, on Tuesday.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene by passing motorists who reported the accident. RUSA boss, Prem Balram, said, “Upon arrival, the pedestrian was found lying in the centre of the off-ramp. He had sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The deceased was identified by family who arrived at the scene a short while after the accident had occurred. According to his family, he was under the influence of alcohol when he left his home in Greenbury. The deceased was expected to visit friends in Cornubia when he was run over by the VW Golf. The driver of the VW Golf was not injured in the accident.”

“We have warned pedestrians and motorists alike about adhering to road safety rules. Pedestrians have been urged countless times to refrain from crossing busy roadways as accidents occur in a flash. There are designated crossing areas for pedestrians to ensure their safety as well as that of motorists and their occupants. Too many people die on the roads due to reckless behaviour and failure to heed warnings,” said Balram.
