The crackdown on the drug trade continues in the Phoenix area and arrests have been effected by police who have also seized drugs as well.

Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo, said, “Members of SAPS Phoenix Crime Prevention Unit work tirelessly to ensure that the streets of Phoenix are cleaned from drugs. This is done by ensuring that anyone found with drugs is arrested and sent to court.

On Tuesday, 5 February, at about 5pm, Warrant Officer T Reddy and his members proceeded to the Rucklen area (Barnyard) where a woman, Nosipho Tenza (38) was arrested with 50 capsules of heroin. Nkanyiso Sibiya (30) was also arrested with 100 capsules of heroin. Both accused were detained at SAPS Phoenix and appeared in the Verulam Magistrates Court.”

Phoenix CPF chairman, Umesh Singh, said, “We welcome the ongoing drug raids in the area and look forward to more arrests.

“The police members are commended for working dedicatedly to curb this pandemic in our area. We urge community members to work with police and the CPF and provide information regarding drug dealing in Phoenix. Together we can make a difference in our community.”
