The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle resulting in the single vehicle fatal crash

An Easter tragedy claimed the life of a young man leaving a woman critical following a fatal single vehicle crash on the Phoenix Highway in the early hours of yesterday morning

Media liaisons officer for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, said, “Netcare 911 paramedics were called out to the accident scene on the Phoenix Highway in the vicinity of a garage near Eastbury at about midnight. Paramedics assessed the scene and found that a man, believed to be in his early 20s, was entrapped and deceased in the light motor vehicle. The female passenger, believed to be in her late 20s, sustained critical injuries. She was stabilised on scene by Netcare 911 paramedics and was transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

“The Ethekwini Fire and Rescue service was called out to cut and free the entrapped deceased driver. Reports indicate that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle which rolled into an embankment. All services were on scene and the circumstances preceding the accident are subject to police investigation,” said Herbst.
