Head of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), Prem Balram, said, “At approximately 7:58am, members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to Grandmore
Place in Stanmore after a dog was found dragging a packet containing a foetus.
Upon arrival on scene, it was established that residents in the area had taken out their bins for collection that morning. A dog was seen dragging a packet which ripped open exposing the fully developed foetus. The sex or race of the child could not be established. Police are investigating further. This is not uncommon where a foetus is discarded with the trash. Reaction officers have attended several such occurrences and it is a grisly sight indeed. It is heartbreaking that someone can dispose of a living being in that callous and inhumane manner,” said Balram.
“Those mothers who cannot care for their babies in unwanted pregnancies are urged to contact the relevant personnel to help them with their situation. It is cruel and criminal to throw a foetus away in the garbage. There are organisations that offer assistance and can help a struggling mother to make a humane decision,” said Phoenix CPF chairman, Umesh Singh.
