Several buildings including a residential block in Verulam was evacuated earlier today after a bomb threat. A call was made by an “Indian” man to Reaction Unit South Africa that a bomb was placed in a building on Todd Street.

Rusa, together with the South African Police Service, had the area evacuated after the call was made at around 8.35 this morning.

The bomb disposal unit has in the meanwhile declared the area safe after an extensive search that resulted in no explosive device being found.

Said Rusa’s Prem Balram: “At 8.35 this morning the controller received the call from an Indian male who informed him that the bomb was placed in Shenaaz Centre in Verulam. He further said that the bomb was to go off within an hour. Reaction officers, paramedics and the police stood off at the scene awaiting assistance from the bomb disposal unit.”
Balram added that the call was recorded by the Rusa operations centre and will be made available for investigation purposes.
