Three brazen robbery suspects entered a clothing store in the Phoenix Plaza on Wednesday under the guise of being patrons and minutes later fled with an armload of cellphones, watches and more than R3 700 in cash.
According to Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo, the men walked into the store at about 13:00 with two of them pretending to be customers as they enquired about women’s clothing.
“The men then proceeded to the rear of the store where one of them withdrew a firearm and ordered two store employees and a customer into the canteen. The suspects ordered that the safe be opened and they grabbed R200 in cash and four cellphones,” said Cpt Naidoo. She added, “The suspects went to a cupboard in the store and helped themselves to another 35 cellphones.
As they headed to the front of the store, they stole watches and took R3 700 in cash from the till. They fled on foot.”
Cpt Naidoo said that no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained by those on scene. “One of the suspects can be identified and police are working on tracing the elusive criminals,” said Cpt Naidoo.
