Phoenix police are appealing to members of the public to assist in identifying a deceased man who was fatally knocked by a train and found on the railway tracks between Duffs Road and Phoenix on 28 January 2019.
Communications officer at Phoenix SAPS, Cpt L Naidoo, said, “Members of SAPS KwaMashu responded to a complaint of a dead body on the railway lines. It is alleged that on the said date and time, the deceased, an unknown African male of about 35 years was crossing the railway when a train travelling from Durban to Stanger knocked him.
The deceased was found on the railway tracks between Duffs Road and Phoenix. The deceased sustained injuries to his head, legs and body. He was attired in a black short sleeve T-shirt and blue denim three quarter pants. The deceased was removed to the Phoenix government mortuary.” Anyone who may have knowledge of who the deceased is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Ndonyela on 031 508 2300.
In a separate and unrelated incident, assistance is sought by police in identifying the body of a man who was found knocked by a vehicle on Brookstone Drive on 15 January 2019. Cpt Naidoo, said, “It is alleged by a witness that on the said date at about 21:30, he was driving on Brookstone Drive, Brookdale, when he noticed an unknown African male knocked by a vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver of that vehicle did not stop and continued driving. The witness did not see the make and registration of the vehicle as it was dark. He summoned an ambulance and the victim was transported to the Unit 10 clinic for treatment.
The victim was responsive at the time and although he was confused, gave the doctor his name as Sipho Dladla, age 43 year, born in 1976. The victim was then transferred to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital however before the ambulance could leave the clinic premises, the victim became unresponsive. He was certified dead.”
“The victim was attired in a black pants, black shoes and a khaki T-shirt. He had sustained injuries to the waist area, left hip, left upper leg and left arm. Anyone who has knowledge of the deceased or has a family member missing since that date is requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Ndonyela who will be able to assist with identification,” said Cpt Naidoo.
