Despite surgery, Phoenix youngster Kiyaan Moodley overcame adversity and conquered the 2026 Midmar Mile recently. The Midmar Mile, one of the largest open water swimming events in the world, took place on Sunday, 8 February, at the Midmar Dam, west of KZN.
After his surgery, Kiyaan (12) said that he remained focused, committed, and continued with dry land cardio training to stay prepared for race day. His determination and resilience truly prove that nothing is impossible until it’s done. What made this achievement even more special, was that he completed the Mile alongside his brother, Shyan (11) – who was also competing for the third time.
Their coach, Siva Padayachee, praised the Moodley brothers for their resilience, and diligent training. He said: “They have continued to grow stronger and become more determined with each swim. I am proud of their development.”
