In celebration of property development and boosting eThekwini’s economy, businesses and government officials gathered during an exclusive ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Sibaya Coastal Precinct. The ceremony, led by the Devmco Group, took place at Tyler’s Restaurant, Marine Walk Shopping Centre, on Thursday, 19 June.

Devmco Group commercial director, Brad Winstanley, said that the ribbon cutting wasn’t just ceremonial, it was foundational. “Nearly a decade ago, Devmco catalysed the Sibaya movement with its flagship OceanDune Sibaya development. Many other developments followed and the results have led to one of the best performing precincts in the country.”

Winstanley said they are not just developing property, they are curating an integrated city, with lifestyle and convenience at the centre, whilst also creating a safe and accessible environment that evolves with its people. “This next phase will generate around 70 000 jobs and will integrate residential, commercial and retail spaces in the same space.

The project will include pedestrian, cycling, and golf cart routes that connect Salta Sibaya with coastal developments via an underpass beneath the M27 and throughout the precinct, adjacent to the road network.

Earlier this year, the eThekwini municipality had committed to contributing R7.8 million towards a road infrastructure upgrade in uMdloti that will unlock Sibaya’s coastal precinct housing development north of Durban. Mayor Cyril Xaba said this development marked a defining chapter in the growth and transformation of the city. “I would like to congratulate Devmco for their vision and execution to achieve this milestone. We welcome the confidence you continue to show in the city’s future.”

“It is a strong partnership between Devmco and the city, that has ensured this development progresses to what we see today. The Sibaya Coastal Precinct is more than just a property development, it’s the manifestation of eThekwini, business and government. This project will benefit residents – especially nearby residents of wards 58 and 102.”
