As South Africa celebrates Youth Month, we shine the spotlight on one of Durban’s rising young talents—Drooplet DJ, a fresh and passionate voice in the Afro-House scene. Born in the outskirts of northern KwaZulu-Natal in iNquthu, Siphelele Mhlongo, now based in Durban, is making waves with the release of his heartfelt debut single “Ndawonye”, launched on 1 June 2025.
Known by his stage name Drooplet DJ, Mhlongo is excited to introduce his AfroPop-infused sound to the world. “Ndawonye” is a soulful collaboration with fellow artists DJ Subzer, LeoMusiq, and MeloSoul, and marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting musical journey.

To celebrate his debut and get to know the artist behind the music, The Springfield Weekly Gazette (SWG) invited Drooplet DJ to join us On the Couch for a one-on-one.
SWG: Drooplet DJ, congratulations on your debut single. How does it feel to finally release “Ndawonye” to the world?
Drooplet DJ: Thank you so much! It feels surreal. “Ndawonye” is my debut, and I’ve poured my heart into it. It’s a special track that represents not just my sound but also my message about love and perseverance. I’m excited for people to connect with it.
SWG: The song features DJ Subzer, LeoMusiq, and MeloSoul. Tell us how this collaboration came about.
Drooplet DJ: DJ Subzer and I have worked together behind the scenes before, so this felt like the perfect moment to create something official. We reached out to LeoMusiq and MeloSoul because we knew their soulful vocals would bring the emotion we needed. Everyone brought something unique, and the chemistry just worked.
SWG: “Ndawonye” has been described as a soulful ode to love and devotion. What inspired the theme of the song?
Drooplet DJ: I’ve always been fascinated by the human experience of love—the highs and the lows. With “Ndawonye,” I wanted to capture the kind of love that stands strong through life’s challenges. It’s about commitment, loyalty, and not giving up on someone, even when it’s hard.
SWG: Musically, how would you describe the sound of “Ndawonye”?
Drooplet DJ: It’s rooted in Afro-House but also blends elements of Tech House and 3 Step. I focused on layering soulful vocals with lush instrumentation and rhythmic beats that get you moving—but also feeling. It’s emotional and danceable at the same time.
SWG: There’s a deep emotional thread in the song. Was that intentional from the beginning?
Drooplet DJ: Absolutely. I wanted people to feel something real. Love isn’t always easy—it’s complex. “Ndawonye” reflects that emotional journey. The soaring vocals and textured layers help carry that message.
SWG: You’re new on the scene, but your production already sounds so polished. What has your creative journey been like?
Drooplet DJ: Thank you! It’s been a lot of trial, error, and growth. I’ve spent years learning, experimenting with sounds, and studying different genres. I’ve also drawn inspiration from everyday life and people’s stories—that’s what makes the music authentic.
SWG: What can fans look forward to now that “Ndawonye” is out?
Drooplet DJ: I’m heading out on a promo tour across South Africa, doing interviews and connecting with radio stations and fans. And yes—there’s more music coming. More collaborations, more stories, and a lot more vibes.
SWG: Final thoughts—what do you hope listeners take away from “Ndawonye”?
Drooplet DJ: I hope it reminds people to fight for love. To stay loyal, to keep showing up for each other—even when things get tough. Love is a journey, and this song is a soundtrack for those willing to walk it.
