Young Hambanati resident Mabutho Gumede is eagerly awaiting the chance to celebrate his loving father, Musa Gumede, this Father’s Day.
In South Africa, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. It is a day to honour and appreciate fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures.

Father’s Day is a relatively recent celebration that started in the United States of America. The exact origin is unknown, but most believe it began when Sonora Dodd of Washington heard a sermon about Mother’s Day and wondered why there wasn’t a special day dedicated to fathers. She started campaigning for an official Father’s Day in 1910, but the day was only recognised by the US president in 1966. Over time, the celebration would spread to the rest of the world and is now observed almost everywhere.
Even with all the different ways it is celebrated across the world, Father’s Day is always a day for honouring the fathers and father figures in our lives who have been instrumental in shaping our lives. The management and staff of Tabloid Newspapers wish all our readers and advertisers a happy Father’s Day.
