Tragedy struck over the weekend when a minor boy and a man believed to be in his fifties lost their lives in a horrific multi-vehicle crash on the N2 northbound near NPC at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived at the scene to find total devastation after five vehicles collided on the busy national highway. Two of the vehicles reportedly lost control and overturned multiple times, ejecting several occupants—many of whom were children.
Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, said paramedics quickly set up a triage area and called for additional ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support paramedics.

“Approximately 10 patients sustained serious to critical injuries and were stabilised on scene before being rushed to nearby hospitals in Durban for urgent medical care,” said Jamieson.

He confirmed that a child, believed to be six years old, sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital in a critical condition. “Sadly, the child went into cardiac arrest and, despite the best efforts of doctors and paramedics, was declared dead at hospital,” he said.
“A second patient, a male believed to be in his fifties, suffered multiple severe injuries and went into cardiac arrest at the scene. Paramedics attempted resuscitation but were unable to revive him, and he was declared deceased on scene,” Jamieson added.
Several other patients were transported to various hospitals across Durban for further treatment. The cause of the crash is currently unknown and will be investigated by police.
