A 42-year-old employee was left injured after being assaulted by his employer in Canehaven on Saturday. The employee claimed he was attacked for allegedly faking a hijacking.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called to Shastri Park at approximately 10am. Spokesperson for Rusa, Prem Balram, said: “On arrival, reaction officers met with the injured man. He explained that he was employed as a driver for an e-hailing service provider.”

The employee claimed that on Friday afternoon, he travelled to Umgeni Road in Durban, where he was allegedly hijacked for his employer’s silver Toyota Etios and robbed of his Huawei cellphone. “The man further stated that he spent the night under a bridge with drug users and managed to seek assistance from a member of the public on Saturday morning,” Balram added.
The employee alleged that he was transported back to his employer’s residence in Canehaven, where he was assaulted by his employer and a second individual. “He claimed that they accused him of fabricating the incident, believing that he had pawned the vehicle to a drug dealer in exchange for narcotics. He was also stabbed during the assault,” Balram said.
The injured employee returned to his father’s home in Shastri Park, where he was met by RUSA members. According to Balram, the injured employee was privately transported to a medical facility and intends to register a criminal case against his attackers.
