Renowned South African author Gretchen Ryan is returning to the literary scene with an exciting children’s book called ‘There’s an Elephant in my Swimming Pool’, and your child could be the official cover designer.
There’s an Elephant in My Swimming Pool is an adventure story set in the South African bush. While on holiday at his grandpa’s game farm near the Kruger National Park, 11-year-old Toby has close encounters with various dangerous wild animals but worse than that, the most dangerous of all; rhino poachers. The story tells of Toby’s attempts to combat poaching, which are constantly thwarted by his younger and more responsible sister, Tara.
The book, aimed at readers aged 8 to 12–years-old has received multiple international awards and has been endorsed by award-winning actress, Virginia McKenna. Krest Publishers South Africa is running a design-a-cover competition, giving young children the opportunity to be the cover designer for the award-winning book, which has just been signed on by Krest Publishers. Children up to the age of 12 are required to draw a colourful cover of an elephant in a swimming pool, the title and author’s name, and have a parent or guardian email it to Krest.
The winning cover will be professionally recreated by an in-house illustrator. The recreation will be the official cover of the published book and the winner will receive a signed copy of the book upon release.
The competition is open to South African children aged up to and including age 12, the drawing should contain an elephant and a swimming pool – in any way your child likes. The drawing should be in portrait orientation, children can use any colours they like and get as creative as they like. The drawing must include the book title ‘There’s an Elephant in my Swimming Pool’ and the author’s name anywhere they want. The drawing can be emailed to info@krestpublishers.co.za with the young designer’s name, age, city in South Africa and about their love for drawing or books. All entries close on Tuesday, 21 March 2023.
