In celebration of Women’s Month, a group of inspirational women gathered for a high tea event where they shared ideas and empowered each other. The event was held at Monastery Tea Garden in Marianhill with the theme, ‘Umnqwazo Wami’, (My headgear) a symbol of covering the head. Cowies Hill resident, Pearl Holdstock who hosted the event said that it was mainly about women celebrating themselves, empowering each other, spreading love and positivity.
“We spoke about covering our heads against negative lies that we believe about ourselves as women. We are worthy of love and occupying leadership positions. We also spoke about mental health, which is something that most people neglect,” said Holdstock.
She added that Women’s Month is about recognising and appreciating women.
“This month reminds us that we are a force. We are strength-personified and that we are unstoppable.
I think as women, we are no longer looking for recognition or validation but we have shifted from the mindset that our value depend on other people’s opinions about us but we have now created spaces for ourselves where we can remind each other how powerful we are. I believe wholeheartedly that the government is trying to help women, but it is hard because they do not understand what women deal with in terms of discrimination, abuse and lack of justice on a daily basis in the workplace and in communities,” added Holdstock.
Kirsten Hunneyball, a specialised coach spoke on eating disorders, developing a mindful body, relationships, addiction and mental health.
“We can’t heal mental health while neglecting the physical body because these two things are connected. Having lived with an eating disorder, I am passionate about helping people navigate their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual selves,” said Hunneyball.
Another guest speaker, Ntokozo Mkhize gave insights on women in positions and explained what leadership is. She also encouraged women to pursue their dreams and support each another.
“As women in leadership, it is important to find your purpose, fulfil your dreams and remember not to get lost in motherhood or adulthood but realise your potential through studying and coaching,” said Mkhize.
Holdstock thanked all the women who attended the special event. “I would like to thank Zanele Dlamini, our program director who encouraged us to learn our love languages so that we can relate better to our children and spouses. Sarah Khize who prayed over the heads to strengthen us as leaders of our country, communities and homes. Nelly Dladla who spoke about self-care, skincare and makeup and Fikile Mkhize who spoke on adorning the inner man through the word of God as well,” concluded Holdstock.
All women who attended the event received special gifts from female owned companies.
