Westville based non-profit organisation, The Robin Hood Foundation partnered with the 1000 Hills Chef School to prepare over 200 litres of hearty chicken stew that was generously distributed to Twinkle Star feeding scheme in Embo, Hillcrest recently.
The partnership, was part of the organisation’s commitment to hold at least 15 different community projects that will benefit the less fortunate communities around Durban for the month of July. The day was filled with activities which include, Mahala Tea event where attendees were able to donate their pre-loved items.
The Robin Hood Foundation Founder, Cindy Norcott said that the 1000 Hills Chef School is one of the biggest supporters of the foundation as the stew was prepared at the school premises with the help of student chefs.
“The students and chefs at 1000 Hills Chef School decided to put their culinary skills to the test and they made over 200 litres of chicken stew as well as more than 20 kilograms of rice. These meals were then vacuum packed into two litre bags of stew. The Robin Hood Foundation then arranged for the Twinkle Star feeding scheme in Embo to distribute the meals to their local community members. Carol Williams, Chairperson of the Twinkle Star Foundation said that the recipients of the chicken stew were overwhelmed. I would like to commend the school for being a shining example of people using what is in their heads, hearts and hands to make a difference in the community,” said Norcott.
The organisation’s Co-ordinator, Jackie Psannis thanked the donors for their generous donations and said that she is grateful to have been part of such an uplifting event.
“We filled about 10 cars with all the wonderful donations of pre-loved clothing, linen and kitchen items to be distributed to our communities. Thank you to everyone who attended, our exhibitors and donors of the prizes. We are so grateful,” said Psannis.
