Local beauty queen and humanitarian, Sharne` Dheochand, is never one to shy away from a good cause and when she heard that Nichole Jasmin of Little Angels was raising funds for sanitary pads as part of her annual Christmas drive, Dheochand did not hesitate to assist.
Trolleys were placed at Pick n Pay to encourage residents to donate to this worthy cause and as a result, 200 packs of sanitary pads have been collected so far.
“I will be handing over 100 packs of these pads to Nichole from Little Angels for her to put in her gift bags and the remainder will be going to the less privileged,” said Dheochand.
Dheochand further commended Jasmin on her efforts in restoring dignity to the young girls. “It is so wonderful to see that there are still people in our community who do care and who try to make a difference, thank you Nichole. It’s not how much we give but rather how much love we put into giving,” she said.
This will not be the last of her sanitary pad drives and she looks forward to doing this again in the near future. “I would like to thank Shamilla Karwa from Medchem Pharmacy for the 100 packs of pads donated as well as Chester from Pick n Pay in Hutten Heights for allowing me the opportunity to set up a trolley to collect and of course to the community who donated. Thank you and may God bless you,” she said.
Nichole Jasmin of Little Angels was very happy to receive the donation. “Thank you so much Sharne` for helping a number of children from Fairleigh. We have been having this gift drive for many years and we have noticed that children aged between 12 and 13 seem to come often to the gift drive and toys do not always seem appropriate, so we are truly grateful for her assisting us in getting the sanitary pads for the young girls. It is much needed and much appreciated,” said Jasmin.
