Brighton Beach Corporate Communications Officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, attended the Dignity, Diversity and Policing (DPP) workshop which will prove to be beneficial to law enforcement in the area.

Capt Le Roux, who is known for her efforts in campaigning for the rights and safety of vulnerable groups within society, opted to share information from this workshop with her fellow colleagues as she felt that it was educational and empowering.

Capt Le Roux said: “Members are sensitised with regards to Standing Operational Procedures (SOP) through the Information Book (IB) and file. The reality is that members in the Vispol environment seldom have the time during their 12-hour shift to read these directives due to being out in the field.”

Capt Le Roux opted to generate the SOP provided during the workshop for policing prostitution and the protection and promotion of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex individuals (LGBTQI+).

“Both these documents were bonded and presented to members appointed under the Police Act in the form of a booklet. These booklets were distributed to members performing duties in the Vispol environment, Operational Support environment, Administrative Support environment and Detective Services against a signature,” she said.

“We as public servants, must promote and protect human rights with dignity and diversity. These good practices will contribute to lessoning and even eliminating complaints against police, civil claims and conducts generated,” said Capt Le Roux.

She said: “Through this internal project the organisation had invested in the Human Capital of the organisation, by ensuring that members are sensitised on policing with dignity and diversity while being aware of the human rights of marginalised groups within society.”
