Kyle ‘KD’ Desai continues to be an international sensation

Lotus Park rapper, singer, songwriter and producer extraordinaire, Kyle Desai aka ‘KD’ is heating up the internet and putting Isipingo on the map with his new debut single ‘Durban’.

The 23-year-old multi-talented artiste hails from a musical background with his mother and grandmother being highly music-centric. Speaking to Tabloid Newspapers, KD said: “I would love to believe that God instilled music in me from birth and had a plan for my life. I have loved music ever since I can remember. I am convinced I entered into the world as a newborn crying in falsetto. My mother is a great singer so credit definitely goes to her artistic genetic flow passed onto me.”

KD says his inspiration for the single was drawn from the memories of his childhood growing up in Durban. “It is a song story that will transport you on a journey reminiscent of my childhood experiences and also current representation of the city’s diverse culture and its dynamic people. The single is an anthem of unity, love and pride for the city. I am really hoping that this song will reach many people. Inspiring them and also educating them about our phenomenal city.”

Capturing the essence of the city, KD’s music video is a visually enthralling experience that transports you into the heart of the city through its lavish locations that were filmed around some of Durban’s iconic tourist spots and shopping malls. “I have always dreamt of shooting the perfect music video, that will not only showcase me as an artiste but ultimately showcase Durban and its beauty. I wanted to make a music video that will remind us of the better times, a time where families came together to admire the city, a time of unity and love not only for each other but a shared love for Durban,” he said.

Behind the music video is Durban-based Streamline Media. “I got a hold of Streamline Media and they shared the same passion, love and sentiments for Durban as me, they were extremely helpful and accommodating during the music video process. It was an absolute pleasure working with them,” said KD. Within six days of the music video release, it had over raked in over 116 000 views on Facebook and is still growing. “Fame or the desire to be famous has never been my focus. I am far from famous. I would rather be known for the artist that was different from the rest, the singer that stood out from the crowd, the rapper that didn’t use his platform for fame but rather for change. The young boy who had a dream, came from nothing and revolutionised the music industry,” he confessed.

When asked what was next for KD, he said: “You can expect me to continue putting out real music that not only sounds good but also impacts change, motivates, encourages and inspires people.” KD said that keeping the faith, believing in God, is what brought him to this point in his young career. “Never stop dreaming and once you have that dream start taking steps, put in the work and stay determined to make that dream a reality. Prayer, hard work, faith, and determination are my ingredients for success,” he said.

Those who have not been bitten by the KD bug can watch the video on various social media platforms and can also be viewed on the official Streamline Media Facebook page.
