Residents gather to clean up Nandi Drive

Communities have joined hands for mop-up operations to clean areas that were left destroyed and untidy following the Durban unrest.

Armed with brooms, bin-bags and gloves, residents from Newlands East cleaned the dirt left by looters on Nandi Drive after the Game, Massmart and other warehouses were looted. Lernice Parker, a resident of Newlands East, who was also part of the clean-up said, “I feel that as a nation, we will rebuild but we cannot all sit in fear doing nothing. Fear grips the captivity of our hearts but in order for our nation to change and survive this, we all need to offer our hand and help where we can. Durban is my roots and where I’m from. It’s my responsibility as a Durbanite to assist with changing the narrative.”
