It was a blue Monday for a notorious wanted conman who was nabbed in an intelligence-driven operation by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in Unit 13, Phoenix, after he has evaded the law on numerous occasions.
The 50-year-old Challen Place resident is believed to be wanted on 22 criminal cases in Kwazulu-Natal and has been detained at Tongaat SAPS.
RUSA head, Prem Balram said, “Reaction Officers kept observation since last Friday
over the suspect’s residence. A female nurse, who is based at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital and who resides at the same address as the arrested suspect, provided RUSA members with misleading information for several days regarding the whereabouts of the alleged conman. The suspect was arrested after he left the residence on Monday morning at about 09:31 in a silver VW Golf. Reaction officers who were positioned around the vicinity then boxed in his vehicle and arrested him without incident. He was wanted for robbery and theft after he conned women out of cash in two separate incidents in Tongaat last week. The recovered car was used as his getaway vehicle.”
“During an interview with Reaction Officers, the suspect confirmed that he was arrested several times for similar cases and that he used the monies to buy cocaine.
“The father of two sons informed Officers that he started his criminal career at the age of 12 in Newlands West. He continued to con women after he was fired from his job at a car dealership in Durban. The suspect is wanted for several cases including Pointing of Firearm,
Theft of Motor Vehicle from Suncoast Casino, Intimidation and Robbery,” added Balram.
“The RUSA members are commended for their efforts in tracking down and securing the arrest of the wanted suspect. Members of the public who have been defrauded by the alleged conman are urged to come forward and report such incidents to the police,” Balram said.
