The Altech UEC building in Mount Edgecombe was set alight after a fire broke out at a nearby substation this morning, Wednesday, 11 June.

Speaking to The Phoenix Tabloid, Gareth Naidoo from KZN VIP stated, “KZN VIP attended the scene after being called out, while other emergency services were also dispatched. Members of staff were immediately evacuated with no reported injuries. The fire lasted for about 45 minutes before it was successfully extinguished by the fire department.”

Steve Nienaber, Sales and Marketing Executive from Altech UEC, explained, “We can confirm that the fire broke out from a substation that belongs to the eThekwini Municipality around 7am this morning. The fire caused external damage to the UEC building however none of the staff members were injured.”

Phoenix SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Louise Naidoo confirmed the fire stating, “Investigations confirmed that an electric fault caused the fire and no foul play is suspected.”
