A Phoenix schoolgirl endured a heinous ordeal when she was raped at knifepoint by a stranger on a pathway as she made her way to school last Monday morning.
Communications officer at Phoenix SAPS, Cpt L Naidoo said, “It is alleged by the victim that on Monday at about 7:40am, she was on her way to school in the Phoenix area and had entered a pathway which she uses to get to school when she noticed a man seated in the pathway.
The said man called out to the victim and then began running after her.
When the suspect caught up to the victim, he pointed a knife at her and instructed her to remove her under garments.
He then raped the victim in the pathway and when he had finished his brutal act, he fled the scene.
A case of rape is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.”
“A warning to young girls and ladies, do not walk alone in isolated areas, rather walk in groups. Too often youth and women are accosted in such situations and are at the mercy of ruthless criminals. Avoid becoming a victim and select safer routes to travel or travel in groups for your own wellbeing,” Cpt Naidoo said.
Phoenix CPF chairman Umesh Singh said, “As we enter Women’s Month, it is distressing to note that these vile criminals are still pouncing on the young women and ladies of our community.
Yet another girl is alleged to have fallen victim to a rapist who has undoubtedly hurt her physically, sexually and has scarred her emotionally as well.
“These kinds of crimes against women and children will not be tolerated and the law will catch the perpetrator who will be punished accordingly.”
