Beauty queen and fitness enthusiast, Trisha Poona, has challenged fellow Durbanites to step into action in support of the Association of the Aged (Tafta’s) annual Trail Run through the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve on Sunday, 19 November, in celebration of Tafta’s mission to inspire active ageing.
Poona is set to join hundreds of runners and walkers, who will test their endurance, celebrate health and fitness and build on community participation through the annual Tafta event. The Mrs South Africa finalist urges runners and families to “get into shape” to race their way.
All proceeds from the event will contribute towards providing a three course meal to Tafta elders during the festive period. Participants are also called on to bring along an item of toiletry that will be donated to Tafta’s needy pensioners as part of its Christmas campaign.
Poona says she decided to throw her support behind Tafta as a result of her love and respect for the elderly and her passion for healthy living.“We hosted a Christmas lunch every year for the elderly at Tafta when I was a pupil at Northlands Girls High. It was such a joyful afternoon filled with eats, gifts and entertainment that we managed to put together,” said Poona
In addition Poona encourages young parents to keep fit and active to ensure longevity through the twilight years. “We are thrilled to have Trisha Poona support Tafta’s Trail Run this year and encourage more Durban families to come out and support this great initiative,” said Gail Samuels, Divisional Manager Income Development and Marketing.
Participants can choose to compete in the 4km at a cost of R50 or 8km at a cost of R80 and can look forward to winning some very exciting prizes at the event. These include a family weekend away in the South Coast sponsored by Platinum Destinations, other hotel accommodation vouchers from Tsogo Sun Hotels, and the Riverside Hotel and various gift hampers.
Pre-registration can be completed at www.roag.co.za or www.wardevents.co.za and on-the-day registration begins promptly at 5:45am. The race is scheduled to begin at 7am from Virginia Preparatory School. For more information contact Ateesha on
