Torrential downpours wreaked havoc in the South of Durban on Tuesday, 10 October. The storm knocked down powerlines and caused outages in several suburbs in Chatsworth. Several homes and buildings were also flooded. All roads in the southern parts of Durban were closed.
EThekwini Municipality Head of Communications Unit, Tozi Mthethwa stated that the wind had been measured at 70 kilometres per hour, and was extremely dangerous.
“Our Disaster Management Call Centre experienced high call volumes. Residents are requested to please only call the Disaster Management Call Centre for emergencies on 031 361 0000,” said Mthethwa.
