Arenea Sleeman (37), from Umgeni Park, recently participated in the 67th World Power lifting Championships which was held in Trutnov, Czech Republic, as part of the South African team made up of nine competitors.

Weighing in at 66 kilograms, Sleeman lifted a total of 417.5kg in three divisions of the competition – Dead lift: 180kgs, squats: 157.5kgs and bench: 80kgs and was placed second in the world, after Hungary.

Sleeman, an animal behavourist at uShaka Sea World for the last 15 years, began body building 12 years ago and only moved over to the sport of power lifting in July last year. Her years of training as a body builder put her in good stead as she moved over to power lifting.
