A 42-year-old father from Bhanoyi was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old daughter on Wednesday, 7 June in the Verulam Regional Court.
The victim was sexually abused since 2014 and the matter was reported to the police in 2016. The victim was repeatedly raped by her own father and was threatened to be killed if she reported the matter to anyone.
The victim reported the matter to her mother. A case of rape was opened at Ndwedwe police station and the docket was transferred to KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. Intensive investigations were conducted and the accused was arrested.
He made several court appearances until his sentence on Wednesday.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused and praised the detectives for their determination in solving the case.
“Abusers of our vulnerable people have no place in our society, we will make sure that all those involved in crimes against women and children are brought to book where they will face the full might of the law,” said Langa.
