The KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr TW Mchunu visited Osizweni on Tuesday, 17 October together with MECs for Agriculture and Rural Development Themba Mthembu; Arts and Culture Bongi Sithole-Moloi and Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo.
In particular the purpose of the visit was to see first hand the work undertaken at Zibambeleni Secondary School. The premier first visited the school in August 2016 during the Cabinet Operation Sukuma Sakhe, were he learned of the various challenges faced by both educators and learners at the school.
The school, which was once known for producing good pass rates, had fallen into a state of disrepair. In addition the learners were battling social problems including teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and vandalism.
“Today I want to thank the government departments and social partners who came together to help improve the quality of learning and teaching at Zibambeleni Secondary School in Osizweni.“ I am very proud to see what has been achieved through the working together of government departments and social partners, including NGO Al-Imdaad Foundation,” said Mchunu. The premier said he felt it important for intervention to take place early so that learners writing the 2017 examination would not suffer.
