It was cold-blooded murder, execution style, when a 35-year-old man was shot after he was accosted by three men in a chilling hijacking on Highstone Road in Whetstone on Friday.
According to Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo, an eyewitness saw the heinous incident unfold after a motorist was accosted by three
men on foot. “It is alleged by an eyewitness that on Friday at about 11am, he witnessed a Toyota Tazz drive into a driveway on Highstone Road in Whetstone. The driver was approached by three unknown men who were on foot. It is unknown as to what transpired between the men and the driver but the witness noticed that the driver of the Tazz was shot in the back of his neck. The three suspects then removed the drivers’ private firearm and got into his motor vehicle and drove away. The 35-year-old driver was declared dead at the scene. The suspects are unknown and no arrest have been made. A case of Carjacking and Murder is being investigated,” said Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt L Naidoo.
KZN VIP spokesman, Romano Naidoo said, “KZN VIP Response Units and Medics responded to the scene together with SAPS and Metro. VIP Medics declared the driver deceased. An act of murder was committed and community members in the area are fearing for their lives.”
A Facebook post on the KZN VIP Phoenix Crimewatch page reported that a little girl witnessed the shooting and stated: “It was a little girl that witnessed….all
she said at that she heard the loud sound thinking it was fireworks then she looked and saw these guy’s pushing the Indian guy out of the vehicle…she really traumatised.” Police could not confirm this information. Phoenix CPF chairman, Umesh Singh said, “Yet another murder has rocked Phoenix.
There have been more than two murders in the area in the past week in separate incidents.
We, as a community, need to be vigilant and protect our homes and family as best as we can. We need to work hand in hand with the police and security service providers and inform them of possible criminals lurking in the area. Violence is brimming over in the Phoenix area and we
need to strategize as a community together with relevant authorities to help safeguard our town from marauding criminals. We trust that the police will bring those responsible for these killings to book.”
