Emergency and rescue personnel on scene of the fatal crash

A collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle has claimed two lives leaving 19 others injured this afternoon on the N2 southbound Highway in Umgabba, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene to find the two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. Several people were found walking around on the scene.

Spokesman for ER24, Russel Meiring, said, “Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the body of the taxi driver lying trapped inside of his vehicle. The female passenger of the light motor vehicle was found trapped in her vehicle. Unfortunately, both of these patients had already succumbed to their injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead. Nineteen other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to critical.

“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Traffic was heavily affected due to the collision. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
