A car guard working in Todd Street in Verulam robbed a 61-year-old wheelchair bound Pupsha Murugan of her cash on Friday, 9 June.

According to Murugan, she had wheeled herself to Todd Street to purchase a few items. “I was approached by the car guard who was using an orange reflective vest. The guard offered to assist me to purchase groceries,” she said.

“He then took my money and went inside the store. He returned a while later with a box and I left without checking the box,” continued Murugan.

Murugan explained to reaction officers that when she arrived at home and opened the box, she found two bricks inside.

“I realised that I have been robbed of cash and returned to Todd Street. The car guard could not be located,” she claimed.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa are searching for the suspect, a tall and fair Indian male. Director at RUSA Prem Balram said,”It is sad that there are people who take chances like this especially with old people, we plead with the community to help us catch this car guard.”
