Verulam Athletic Club posted a triple header with the Saturday 4km and 8km time trial challenge followed by Sunday’s 5km, 10km, 12km and 15km Airport Challenge and FNB City Surf 10km challenge in Durban this past weekend.

The FNB Durban Surf 10km challenge saw over 6000 runners and walkers taking to the streets of Masabalala Yengwa Road, in Durban, where the inaugural race began. Beena Maharaj and Sundree Ramlagan posted a 1.17 finish ahead of Shirley Narainsamy in 1.18. Dolly Shamlall eased through a minute later in 1.19. Tharushka Sookoo finished ahead of mum, Pam Sookoo who finished a minute later. Dasen Naidoo and Amith Ramsunder completed the race in 1.32 while Anand Naicker continued to complete his club 10/10 challenge with a moderate 1.42.

Logan Naidoo posted a 53.06 finish ahead of Sundree Ramlagan and Tharushka Sookoo in 1h00 during Saturday’s 4km and 8km runs. VAC’s chairman, Bobby Ramlagan attempted his first 4km after a prolonged period of ill health. Novice runner, Reema Harripersad, a regular in time trials finished a minute later. Udeshan Phillip led the 8km in a sub one hour 58.54 finish ahead of Krish Naidoo and Velvan Nair in 1.05. Shirley Narainsamay, Beena Maharaj and Pam Zwane followed through as leading ladies in 1.13. Ben Padayachee made a welcome return after a short absence and eased through in 1.15.

Zanele Mkhize also returned after a accouchment lay off and posted an impressive 1.15 with Andrew Dlamini also finishing in 1.15. Grandmaster Jayce and Dolly Shamlall completed in 1.23 while Ronnie Rangasamy completed his 8km walk in 1.39.
